The Joker Walks The Last Mile

The Joker would have to be my favourite comic book character of all time. I especially love the ‘old school’ Joker from the 1940s, who was equally homicidal and insane. In this story the Joker comes up with a brilliant idea on how to get away with his crimes, to confess and get executed. I know it sounds crazy, which is perhaps why I love it so much.

The Joker’s Movie Crimes

This is another ‘old school’ Joker story and one that is quite infamous due to the ‘goat scene’ which has appeared out of context on the Superdickery website.

Plastic Man – Origin Story

Jack Cole created Plastic Man in 1941. Unlike most superheroes his debut story also featured his origin. Cole was a brilliant cartoonist but quite a tortured soul. Like most comic book artists and writers of the time he dreamed of having his own newspaper comic strip, which he achieved just before he committed suicide in 1958. Cole also illustrated some ‘good girl’ art for Playboy magazine.

Plastic Man has been revived a number of times since DC Comics acquired the rights to the character in the 1960s, but none has been as successful as the original Cole stories were. In my opinion the reason for their lack of success is that they have focused too much on the humour of Cole’s original tales and not on the hero work. Cole’s stories not only featured great art, but had a sometimes dark sense of humour.

The Joker – Rackety-Rax Racket!

I previously posted a few Joker stories on this blog. I posted The Joker Walks The Last Mile here, The Happy Victims here and The Joker’s Movie Crimes here. In the next couple of weeks I will be posting two of my favourite Joker stories from the 1970s, The Joker’s Five Way Revenge and This One’ll Kill You Batman.

Rackety-Rax Racket is a Joker story from the late 1940s (I think), a time when the Joker was in a transitional phase, from a cold blooded murderer to a pest who would pull elaborate pranks to make Batman look foolish. This story features nice art-work from one of my favourite Bar=tman artists Dick Sprang.

My first post… What an original title?!

8184Woo hoo!!! My first blog entry. I have been thinking long and hard about what I should actually write in my blog. My first idea was that I would write in character, like The Joker, but that would be pretty creepy. Also, while this may have been a little bit funny a first, I think it may have ended up being quite annoying to both write and read.

Anyway, I think that I’ll just write about my Batman collection. Whilst I will probably be writing some reviews of the Batman comic books, I’ll also share my thoughts on the Batman movies and toys. I’ll more than likely share my thoughts on anything else that takes my fancy as well. (This will more than likely, just be like everyone else’s blogs!!!)
